PE
Our PE curriculum is designed to instil an interest and passion for physical activity in all our children and our hope is that this will stay with them beyond their time at Penruddock Primary School.
Through our PE lessons and other sporting activities we encourage our children to take responsibility for their own health and well-being and support them to become physically active individuals both in and out of school. We encourage them to participate in both sporting competition and non competitive activity encouraging them to value the importance of a healthy lifestyle and providing them with the skills and knowledge they need to stay fit and healthy.
We provide a varied and exciting Physical Education (PE) curriculum at Penruddock Primary School. As well as the traditional sports we also like to give the children the experience of new and different sports. In recent years these have included cycling, sailing, rock climbing and wheelchair basketball. We intend to deliver a high-quality curriculum where all children are valued and are encouraged and inspired to succeed in PE and in developing life skills.
Our PE Curriculum is built upon progressive skills as outlined by Chris Quigley in his Essentials Curriculum. The content is designed to provide challenging and enjoyable learning through a range of sporting activities including; invasion games, net & wall games, strike and field games, gymnastics, dance, swimming and outdoor & adventure.
Throughout the year we ensure as many of our children as possible represent our school in sporting competitions and festivals. These include Football, Hockey, Swimming, Cross Country, Tri-Golf and Rounders. We work in partnership with Lucy Potter at L P Sports to provide high quality coaching in a variety of sports.
Our older children in Year 6 form our sports Crew and are trained in sports leadership to run Intra Sporting Competitions at break times and lunch times for our younger children and support staff to run events such as sports day later in the year.
We are proud to have held the School Sports 'Gold Sports Mark' for the past four years and we are working hard towards our 'Platinum Mark' which we hope to attain in the near future.
Our children receive a minimum of 2 hours sporting activity per week through their timetabled PE sessions but many enjoy accessing playtime activities, our weekly sporting clubs and participating in our annual sporting competition calendar, maintaining an activity count of well over 2 hours per week.
