Personal, social, health and emotional (PSHE) education is an important and necessary part of our children's education. However, PSHE is a non-statutory subject so the DfE do not provide a framework or program of study.  Each school has the flexibility to deliver high-quality PSHE using a curriculum of their choice. At Penruddock Primary School we use the Jigsaw scheme across the school because we believe it equips our pupils well, offering them a sound understanding of risk and with the knowledge and skills necessary to make safe choices and thoughtful and informed decisions.

Our PSHE curriculum embeds the skills necessary for learners to become resilient and rounded members of a global community. We aim to allow the children to take risks, try new things and learn that it’s ok to make mistakes.

Relationship and Sex Education 

Relationships and sex education (RSE) is an important part of our PSHE education. Relationships education is compulsory for all primary school pupils, and relationships and sex education (RSE) is compulsory for all secondary school pupils. Our sessions are included as key units towards the end of each years PSHE Jigsaw curriculum.

When any school provides RSE they must have regard to the Secretary of State’s guidance (link below), this is a statutory duty.
