Religious Education

At Penruddock, we believe Religious Education encourages children to explore different beliefs with curiosity, respect, and understanding. By learning about major religions and worldviews, children develop empathy and a thoughtful approach to moral and spiritual questions.

Our RE curriculum focusses on the six major world religions: Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism, and Buddhism. Children study each faith in a coherent, progressive way, gaining knowledge of beliefs, practices, and historical and cultural contexts. Lessons are engaging and reflective, using first-hand experiences wherever possible, such as visits to local places of worship. Where visits are not feasible, pupils study artefacts, images, and virtual tours to bring religious life into the classroom. Teachers encourage discussion, reflection, and questioning, and model subject-specific vocabulary, so children can express their ideas clearly and confidently.

Religious Education at Penruddock helps children develop respect and understanding for others, alongside insight into their own beliefs and experiences. Children learn to share their opinions thoughtfully, and their learning is visible in discussions, presentations, and work in floor books.

We also provide enriching opportunities to complement classroom learning. Visits to local places of worship and sessions with religious leaders give children a chance to see beliefs in practice and reflect on their own understanding. These experiences bring the curriculum to life and support children in developing a lifelong respect for diversity and shared humanity.

Remembrance Assembly

Today, the 11th November the children of Penruddock gathered to pay their respects to those people who died in the wars. Each class learnt a different poem to recite about remembrance and as a whole school we recited the famous verse from 'For the Fallen'. We have also made our own poppy wreaths and they are on display under the shelter for all to see.

We will remember them.
