Religious Education

RE is important for all our children to learn about cultural and spiritual diversity and to help them understand about the world around them. The aim of Religious Education in our school is to help children to acquire and develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity and other world religions, whilst also encouraging children to appreciate the way that religious beliefs shape life and behaviour of individuals around the world. We encourage our pupils to ask questions about the world and to reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences. Our curriculum is designed to encourage creativity, imagination, enquiry, debate, discussion and independence.

At Penruddock we are required to follow the RE Agreed Syllabus for Westmorland and Furness and so we have adopted the Jigsaw RE scheme of work as this explores the content of the W and F Agreed syllabus in an inspirational and thought provoking way.

The National Society Statement of Entitlement 2019 states that the aims of religious education in school are:

  1. To enable pupils to know about and understand Christianity as a diverse global living faith through the exploration of core beliefs using an approach that critically engages with biblical text.
  2. To enable pupils to gain knowledge and understanding of a range of religions and world views appreciating diversity, continuity and change within the religions and world views being studied.
  3. To facilitate pupils to engage with challenging questions of meaning and purpose raised by human existence and experience.
  4. To enable pupils to recognise the concept of religion and its continuing influence on Britain’s cultural heritage and in the lives of individuals and societies in different times, cultures and places.
  5. To encourage pupils to explore their own religious, spiritual and philosophical ways of living, believing and thinking.

National Society RE Statement of Entitlement 2019

Although we are not a faith school, we are extremely lucky to welcome regular visitors into our school to lead our whole school assemblies and introduce our children to Christian bible stories or enable us to reflect on moral questions and issues through local projects and wider current affairs.

Our RE Leader is Mrs Horner. if you require further information about our RE Curriculum please speak with her directly or access the skill progression documents and gallery below. The whole curriculum maps for each class can be accessed in the curriculum tab on the right hand menu.
