PE
At Penruddock, we believe that PE and physical activity are key to a child’s physical, emotional, and social wellbeing. PE is given dedicated curriculum time and is a priority in our school week. Our aim is for all pupils to be regularly active, to enjoy physical activity, and to benefit from the personal, social, and health opportunities it provides. The location of our school supports a healthy and active lifestyle, and we provide ample opportunities for pupils to enjoy a range of PE activities, active play, outdoor experiences, and extracurricular opportunities. Developing physical skills, confidence, and the ability to participate in competitive and cooperative activities are all central to our approach.
Our curriculum offers enjoyable, physically challenging lessons in which pupils can master a range of skills, acquire tactical understanding, and develop teamwork and leadership. PE at Penruddock is designed to ensure that children leave school with a positive experience of physical activity and the skills to confidently engage in a variety of sporting and recreational activities throughout their lives.
PE is prioritised on the school timetable with regular lessons each week. Pupils’ physically active lifestyle is further encouraged through daily active play, wellbeing walks, outdoor learning, and weekly forest school sessions. Lessons focus on engagement, enjoyment, and confidence, with high expectations for skill development, teamwork, communication, and leadership. The curriculum is extended through extra-curricular activities, community sport pathways, and inter-school competitions.
The impact of our PE curriculum is clear in pupils’ enthusiasm for being active, their confidence in their abilities, and their enjoyment of teamwork and physical challenges. Regular physical activity supports wellbeing, concentration, and social development, while assessment and observation ensure children are progressing in their skills, tactical understanding, and physical competence.
Enrichment is a key part of PE at Penruddock. Our school grounds and local environment provide opportunities for mountain walks, bushcraft, forest school, and outdoor adventure. Extra-curricular clubs run throughout the year, offering activities such as dance, gymnastics, badminton, running, cricket, and football, allowing pupils to practise skills, enjoy sport, and build friendships across the school.
